In New York City and State, there are three diploma types: advanced Regents, Regents, and local diplomas.
All students can earn a Regents or advanced Regents diploma. Some students also have the option to earn a local diploma. All diplomas types are valid within and outside the State and can be used wherever a high school diploma is required.
To earn a diploma, students must:
Earn 44 credits, distributed across specific subjects
Pass assessments in the subjects of English language arts (ELA), math, social studies, and science
Visit the NYCDOE family site or contact your school for information about graduation requirements.
To use the tool below, select an option from the Diploma Type menu to find specific course requirements for either Regents or advanced Regents diplomas (you cannot view your student's progress toward a local diploma at this time). You can view a student’s current progress towards graduation in detail by clicking each section. Courses outside of the school day might not appear under "credits in progress".
